Via San Giovanni
San Gimignano is a beautiful village situated atop a hill in the heart of Tuscany, in Italy. Village surrounded by ramparts and medieval origin, is characterized by its towers that give it a very distinctive silhouette. These towers were built by families wealthier village as a symbol of power and wealth. Currently 15 towers, are preserved and already surprised this amount, but were build up to 72, that if any could exceed the height of the of the city by law, called Tower Rognosa. San Gimignano is something more than half an hour drive north of Siena and the same distance approximately south of Florence and in it there are all kinds of accommodations and restaurants, from the most simple and economic to the most luxurious.
Its historic center was declared a world heritage site by Unesco in 1990 and a walk by its streets allows us to savor the culture and tradition of the town and its inhabitants. There are many shops of handicrafts such as their famous knives. Also highlight their gastronomic products as the wine, oil, saffron and confectionery based on almonds. The visit of the Museum SanGimignano1300 is an ideal occasion to know the architectural, historical and social aspects of medieval Tuscan. Located in the heart of the city, the Museum offers a stunning reconstruction of decorated pottery from the town of San Gimignano such which was between the XIII and XIV centuries.
The heart of the city has four squares: Piazza della Cisterna, Piazza Duomo, where is the collegiate church, Piazza Pecori, and Piazza delle Erbe. The main streets are Via San Matteo and Via San Giovanni, which cross the city from North to South.
