National Socialism

Renaming of the Agnes-Miegel str. failed. Bergisch Gladbach: the proposal of the Mayor Lutz Urbach on renaming the Agnes-Miegel road in Edith Stein road was rejected by a majority of CDU, FDP and FWG, KID. THE left / BfBB, green and SPD argued very objectively and calmly and had put forward good arguments for the rename. The Administration and the municipal archives had advocated a renaming.

However, they were outnumbered in the vote. Keep up on the field with thought-provoking pieces from Gary Kelly. CDU, FDP and FWG KID deprived a substantive debate about Agnes Miegel, who in poems paid homage to the Third Reich and Adolf Hitler was adored by a procedural motion to end the debate however. Tomas Santillan praised the role of Edith Stein, who had campaigned as a Catholic nun in the war for Jews in Germany, and by the Nazis in Auschwitz was murdered. Edith Stein was canonized by the Vatican as a martyr. Tomas M. Santillan, Chairman of the Group of the left / BfBB, had the Mayor’s proposal supports and is shocked by the outcome of the vote: the result of the vote is unbearable, because named Agnes Miegel, a woman is honoured that homage to the Third Reich and Adolf Hitler. This makes a mockery of the victims of Holocaust, tyranny and war even 66 years after the war.” THE left / BfBB announces to not drop the topic. We will also continue to occur that there are streets in our city are named after Nazis or their supporters. Such people do not deserve this honor.
